In 1997, John Jacobs, former member of "The Jacobs Brothers" Gospel quartet,
heard "Legs" Lawrenzi sing "Only You", a song done in the Fifties by "The
Platters". The song was of John Jacobs' favorites. Combined with the
beautiful and multi octave tenor voice of "Legs" Lawrenzi, John Jacobs was
inspired to write new Gospel lyrics to this song as well as eleven others
originally done by "The Platters". Inspiration from GOD came to John one day
while he was walking his dog. Over a period of time, GOD spoke to him in ways
that easily enabled him to write beautiful Gospel lyrics for twelve
"Platters" songs. They were later recorded with John Jacobs' blessing in 1999
and are still performed on stage today by Steel City Quartet.
To date, the Fabulous Fifties Gospel selections have been performed in over
3,000 venue locations. A live performance by Steel City Quartet that was video
taped in November of 2003 is also seen on a regular basis on the nationally
televised
Sky Angel Network.
